Fr. Anthony Garcias, the incoming Administrator of St. Paul of the Cross, was ordained in 2016 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels when he was 41 years old. He is the oldest of three children and the first member of his family to be born in the United States. His mother is from Suzhou, China and his father (who passed away recently) was from Macau, a former Portuguese colony, now part of China. He was born at St. John’s in Santa Monica, raised in Westchester, and graduated from St. Bernard’s in Playa del Rey and then UCLA in Westwood. For seven years before becoming a priest, he worked as a high school teacher at Bishop Amat in La Puente. Also before becoming a priest, he spent seven years as a friar in the Order of Preachers (the Dominicans). He spent his time in formation at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo in preparation for his ordination as a priest for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. After ordination, he was assigned as parochial Vicar at St. John Chrysostom Church in Inglewood. Since last year at the height of the pandemic, he has been assigned as Administrator at St. Martin of Tours in Los Angeles. Fr. Anthony Garcias will be taking over the place of our Pastor Fr. Joseph Visperas as an Administrator effective July 1 this year. (Fr. Joe who will be completing his second term as our Pastor will be assigned as the new Pastor at St. Timothy Church in Los Angeles.) We are looking forward to meeting and welcoming Fr. Anthony at St. Paul of the Cross Parish.
